Steps to Get Your Virginia License

The path to becoming a licensed salesperson in Virginia.

1. Education

Complete 60 Hours of Pre-Licensing education and pass the final course exam.

2. Exams & Fingerprints

Pass the National and State PSI Exam and get fingerprinted at the testing location.

3. Brokerage & Application

Affiliate with a broker (like KW United) and apply for your license within 45 days of fingerprinting.

Expand Your Business: Reciprocity

Already licensed in VA? Here is how to add Maryland and DC to your portfolio.

Maryland Reciprocity

  • Certificate of Good Standing (from VA/DC)
  • Send Letter to MD Real Estate Commission
  • Pass MD State Portion of PSI Exam

DC Reciprocity

  • Certificate of Good Standing (from VA/MD)
  • Study DC Real Estate Laws
  • Pass DC State Portion of PSI Exam
